In 2016, Lentil Fest partnered again with Feeding Children Everywhere and Decagon Devices, Inc to package 25,000 meals that were distributed locally to Backyard Harvest! This event was held August 20, in the Ag Corner sponsored by Moscow Food Co-op.
Starting in 2015, Lentil Fest featured a Feeding Children Everywhere Event! Each nutrient packed meal included lentils, dehydrated vegetables, pink Himalayan salt and rice, making the meal all-natural, soy-free, gluten-free, preservative-free, kosher certified and vegan. We surpassed our goal and packaged 25,386 meals that were donated to Second Harvest then distributed locally.
Whitman County Humane Society provided volunteers on Friday and Saturday who sold tasting tickets, glasses, and poured our lovely local beverages. In the past 10 years, the National Lentil Festival has given over $30,000 to the Whitman County Humane Society!
Pullman High School volunteers sold beverages in the festival’s Coca Cola Trailers and received 50% of the weekend’s profits that benefited the annual trip to New York. Thanks to Coca Cola for their products and trailers!
The Tase T. Lentil 5K Fun Run also has a charitable component. For each registered runner, the festival donates $3 to the charity of the Committee’s choice. In 2016, it was YMCA of the Palouse. The amount varies by year, usually ending up between $600-$900.
Pullman Rotary poured Merry Cellars wine in the beer and wine garden over the two days. They also receive a portion of the festival’s wine profits.
