ABOUT THE ARTIST
Mycala Zimmerman is from Pullman, Washington. Her work centers around the themes of memory, nostalgia, family and her experiences growing up in a small town. She uses a variety of materials such as oil paint, clay, textiles, and graphite. Her process involves looking at family photos of her parents and siblings or objects she has inherited as references. Her paintings are delicate, created by slowly building up the subject in multiple thin layers. She works with warmer colors in most of her art to create a cozy and “homey” feel. Mycala has also worked on a number of large murals around Pullman. She is currently working to earn her BFA in Fine Arts from Washington State University.
